Brown Rudnick announced today that Merri C. Moken has joined its New York office as a partner in the Intellectual Property Litigation practice.
Moken has nearly 20 years of experience in patent litigation and counseling. Her practice focuses on the biotech, regenerative medicine, chemical, and pharmaceutical fields, as well as the mechanical and electrical arts. Moken previously served as a partner at Kenyon & Kenyon and Holland & Knight. Most recently, she was of counsel at Paul Hastings.
“We are delighted to welcome Merri, who is an exceptional IP litigator with an outstanding reputation, both professionally and personally,” said Sunni Beville, managing director of Brown Rudnick’s Dispute Resolution & Restructuring Department. “Her wealth of experience strengthens our offerings for clients in the life sciences and tech industries, which is an important strategic goal of the firm.”
Moken advises clients on patent matters, including infringement, invalidity and unenforceability, as well as contract-related matters. She has practiced before state, federal district and appellate courts and the International Trade Commission.
“Merri’s experience in patent, trademark and commercial litigation, as well as her client counseling, form a perfect complement to Brown Rudnick’s full-service Intellectual Property practice,” said Ian DiBernardo, chair of the Firm’s Intellectual Property Litigation practice and co-head of its U.S. Technology group. “Merri’s pharmaceutical and biotech experience is a valuable addition as we continue to build our IP litigation capabilities to leverage and support the Firm’s thriving Life Sciences practice.”
Prior to her legal career, Moken worked at several pharmaceutical companies, gaining a real-world perspective and a significant understanding of underlying technologies. She also gained insight into managing both the business and intellectual property goals of her clients.
“I could not be more excited to join Brown Rudnick,” Moken said. “I was drawn to the Firm’s strategic vision for growth, particularly in its IP, Tech and Life Sciences practices, as well as its entrepreneurial spirit. The Firm offers me a dynamic platform to continue providing top-of-class service to my clients and I look forward to working with this remarkable group of experienced IP practitioners.”
Moken received an A.B. in chemistry from Princeton University and a J.D. with high honors in the concentration of litigation and dispute resolution from Boston University School of Law.
