Barnes & Thornburg Welcomes Trusts and Estates Attorney Jacqueline Connor in New York

Barnes & Thornburg has added Jacqueline Connor as a partner in its Private Client Services practice in New York. She joins from White & Case, where she was a member of the Private Wealth & Family Offices Group. The addition of Jacqueline closely follows that of Gregory Plotko, a bankruptcy partner who joined the New York office earlier this year.

Jacqueline’s practice focuses primarily on advising high net worth individuals, families, and fiduciaries in estate and individual tax planning, including asset protection, tax-advantaged transfers of assets, multigenerational gifting, succession planning and charitable giving. She has extensive experience working with entrepreneurs, as well as individuals who receive carried interest as part of their compensation. Her practice also includes advising family offices and working with non-U.S. families making inbound U.S. investments and U.S. families with holdings abroad.

“With her wide range of experience in estate and tax planning, Jackie is an exciting addition to our New York office as we look to round out our Private Client Services practice,” said Robert Boller, partner-in-charge of the firm’s New York office. “Her work with investment fund founders and management company partners complements our Private Funds and Asset Management platform, and our clients will benefit from her unique perspective and insights as they plan for their futures.”

In addition to advising private clients, Jacqueline also has extensive experience advising tax-exempt organizations and other nonprofit entities, particularly in the art world. She has worked with artists, art collectors, private foundations, and exhibitors in an array of art related matters.

“Proposals to change the estate tax law have proliferated in the past few years. High net worth individuals and families need complex estate planning to manage the resulting unpredictability,” said John Olivieri, co-chair of the firm’s Private Client Services Practice and a partner in the New York office. “We are excited to add Jackie’s experience and knowledge to our national estate planning practice.”

Jacqueline earned her B.A. in art history from Barnard College of Columbia University, her J.D. from Boston University School of Law, and her LL.M. in taxation from New York University School of Law. She is a member of the New York City Bar Association’s Estate & Gift Taxation Committee.
