Enilive, an ENI Group company dedicated to biorefining, biomethane production, smart mobility solutions, and the marketing and distribution of all energy carriers for mobility, has signed a joint venture agreement with Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) and Euglena Co., Ltd. (Euglena) to develop a biorefinery within PETRONAS’ Pengerang Industrial Site (PIC) in Johor, Malaysia.
The biorefinery is expected to be operational by the second half of 2028, and it will produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and other biofuels such as hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO) to meet the growing global demands of the aviation and road transport sectors, benefiting from each partner’s expertise.
With this transaction, which was announced to the market as early as July this year, the ENI group enters the biorefining sector in the Asian market and thus gains a distinctive global footprint.
Baker McKenzie assisted Enilive with a team led by partner Paolo Ghiglione, assisted by counsel Chiara Marinozzi, Baker McKenzie’s member firm Wong & Partners in Kuala Lumpur for Malaysian law aspects, and Baker McKenzie’s offices in London and Tokyo for English and Japanese law aspects.
