Baker McKenzie has advised the multinational automotive company Chery Automobile Co. Ltd. (“Chery”) in its joint venture agreement with EV Motors (“Ebro”) for the assembly, sales and distribution of vehicles in Spain. The vehicles will be produced at the former Nissan factory in Barcelona, making Chery the first Chinese company in the sector to open a factory in Europe.
Baker McKenzie fielded a cross-border team of transactional specialists to advise Chery on this transaction. Led by Beijing-based Partner Stanley Jia, the team consisted of Special Counsel Scott Silverman in Beijing, and Partner Cristina Rios and Associate Gerard Giménez from the Barcelona office.
Commenting on the deal, Stanley said, “We are honored to have assisted Chery with this transaction, which not only further enhances our client’s production capability in Europe that is in keeping with the company’s “In Europe, For Europe” strategy, but also solidifies Chery’s leading position in the global automobile sector. This transaction plays to our strength in cross-border transactions and deep experience and knowledge in the automobile sector.”
Stanley continued, “As Chery looks to further expand its footprint and be closer to their international customers, we look forward to continue helping our client navigate regulatory and business issues in different markets, leveraging the legal knowhow from our global network of 70+ offices.”
