On May 1, 2023, WestJet Airlines Ltd. announced the completion of its acquisition of Sunwing Vacations and Sunwing Airlines. Closing followed the announcement on March 10, 2023, by Omar Alghabra,  Minister of Transport, that the Government of Canada had approved the transaction “subject to strict terms and conditions that are in the interest of Canadians”.
