A cross-border Linklaters team advised Nestrade S.A., a subsidiary of Nestlé, on the execution of a long-term, verified emissions removal offtake agreement with re.green regarding a large-scale reforestation and carbon sequestration project under the Atlantic Forest Reforestation/Restoration Grouped Project in Bahia, Brazil.
The agreement establishes a framework for generating and transferring verified carbon credits through a sustainable forest regeneration project. The project is registered under Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard and incorporates innovative approaches for adaptive management, biodiversity preservation, and stakeholder engagement in degraded land areas.
The agreement represents an important step toward helping Nestlé meet its commitment to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, with an interim goal of reducing emissions by 50% by 2030. Linklaters is advising Nestlé on other carbon removal initiatives globally, further supporting Nestlé’s ambitious climate goals.
The Linklaters team was led by São Paulo Corporate Finance Partner Matthew Poulter and London Corporate Partner Chris Staples, and included London Climate Finance Counsel Kerry Liebenberg, and São Paulo Senior Associate Thomas Lemouche.
