DLA Piper has advised Ensana, a leading European operator of health spa hotels, on its entry into the German market through an agreement to operate the Fürstenhof Spa Hotel in Bad Griesbach in southern Germany. This marks a significant first milestone in Ensana’s strategic expansion across the Germany, Austria, and Switzerland (DACH) region, as it aims to double its portfolio by 2030.

The Fürstenhof Hotel, located within the Lower Bavarian Spa Triangle, will undergo a comprehensive renovation and is scheduled to reopen in Q2 2026. Ensana’s refurbishment plans include premium wellness facilities, cutting-edge medical diagnostics, and elegant guest accommodations, designed to fully leverage the therapeutic benefits of Bad Griesbach’s natural thermal waters. By combining leisure activities with Ensana’s health and wellness offerings, the project is expected to elevate Bad Griesbach’s status as a premier health destination and attract both domestic and international guests.

Established in 2019, Ensana currently operates 24 hotels across several European countries, including the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Romania, Bulgaria, and the United Kingdom with a focus on historic spa towns and regions rich in natural healing resources.

The cross-practice DLA Piper team from our Germany offices was co-led by counsel Markus Kotowski and partner Dr Martin Haller with associate Angelina Krußig (all Real Estate) in the core team. They were supported by partner Dr Christoph Dachner (Corporate), counsel Albina Daka (Tax) and Florian Jeske (Employment).
