One of the UK’s leading EU and competition lawyers has joined Knights as a partner in Newcastle upon Tyne.
Neil Warwick OBE specialises in all aspects of competition law, EU retained law, subsidy control, state aid and structural funding.
That experience has helped Neil build a strong reputation, including chairing the Federation of Small Businesses’ pre- and post-Brexit portfolios on international trade and regulation.
Neil works with listed companies on precedent-setting merger clearances and with multi-national organisations on brand maximisation and compliance. He also works with public sector bodies on issues and fund creation having set up more than twenty investment funds.
In 2018 Neil was awarded an OBE for services to the economy in the North East and charitable work.
Neil Warwick, partner at Knights, said: “Knights is a growing business and it’s a great time to join. I’m looking forward to being part of a national team with great experience in all the key regions of the country – including here in the North East. I can’t wait to get started.”
Fellow EU and competition law specialist Ellen Huison also joins Knights in Leeds as part of Neil’s arrival. Their experience complements the expertise of partner James Henson, who regularly represents the European Union and European Council in the High Court. Together they form one of the UK’s leading EU legal teams.
Neil’s arrival at Knights coincides with the appointment of commercial lawyer Ben McMurdo the business’ in Newcastle upon Tyne office. Ben is a specialist in all aspects of commercial contracts with a strong reputation in the North East.
Ben and Neil’s appointments mean there have now been eight new arrivals in Newcastle upon Tyne since Knights arrived in the city in the summer of 2023.
Lisa Shacklock, client services director at Knights, said: “Neil and Ben are outstanding additions to our team – with a great reputation here in Newcastle and across the North East. We’re so pleased with the growth of our team within the first few months of arriving in Newcastle.
“We’ll soon be revealing plans for a new, flagship office in the city and we are looking to add more talented people to the team. It’s an exciting time as we get ready for further growth.”
