Sergio Cires will join leading international law firm Herbert Smith Freehills as a partner in its finance practice in Madrid in January 2024.
Joining from Jones Day, Sergio has more than 15 years of experience representing domestic and international financial entities, capital and debt funds and corporations. He advises on a broad range of project finance and corporate financing transactions as well as restructurings and debt refinancing. In recent years, his practice has focused primarily on energy and infrastructure and real estate acquisitions and financing. He has extensive experience working on cross-border transactions in Europe, the US and Latin America.
Sergio has been recognised in several legal directories, including Best Lawyers for Project Finance, Chambers Europe, Chambers Global and The Legal 500 EMEA. He has been commended for his outstanding level of involvement, anticipation of clients’ needs, and for his technically impeccable and rigorous work.
Sergio will work closely with Armando GarcÃa-Mendoza, partner and Head of the Finance practice in Madrid.
Sergio is the third partner to join the Herbert Smith Freehills finance practice in EMEA and London this year. In January, the firm announced it had hired private capital debt specialist Ambarish Dash based in the London office, and in March it announced the hire of Dr Fritz Kleweta in the firm’s Frankfurt office.
The Madrid office currently boasts 130 professionals, including 15 partners and 81 fee earners.
