Dentons Canada adds to venture tech strength with new partner Megan Cornell

Dentons announces the addition of Megan Cornell as a partner in the Firm’s Corporate and Venture Technology and Emerging Growth Companies groups. A seasoned lawyer with 20 years of industry experience, Megan advises many startups, founders, local businesses, large domestic and foreign-owned companies with Canadian subsidiaries in the technology, financial services, retail and industrial/manufacturing sectors.

“I’m very excited to join Dentons. As a long-standing believer in the importance of technology – in general, and as a critical part of legal practice – it made sense for me to join one of the country’s top venture tech groups,” said Megan Cornell. “I look forward to continuing to support my clients to help them grow and operate in the Canadian tech landscape.”

“We are delighted to welcome Megan to the Firm. As a leading individual in venture tech law, she is a go-to counsel for tech companies,” said Andrea Johnson, venture tech partner and member of the Dentons Global Board. “We continue to see more women-owned and -led companies, accelerators, and funds, who are also looking to work with diverse legal teams. Megan not only boosts the breadth of expertise in our team, she joins a growing group of talented women lawyers at Dentons – at all ages and stages of their careers – who are committed to drive progressive change in the industry and contribute to the next generation of Canada’s tech scene.”

Dentons’ Venture Technology and Emerging Growth Companies group has earned a reputation as one of Canada’s top legal advisors to growth-oriented technology companies – from startup to exit, whether by IPO or mergers and acquisitions – as well as to venture capital investors. The group is known for its value-added tailored approach to client needs and its many offerings, including the new Dentons Venture Hub, a library of online resources for Canadian startups and their founders, including explainer videos, self-serve documents and the Founder Series, a helpful and easy-to-read guide that discusses common legal issues that startups may face.

“Megan has a unique understanding of how to leverage technology to create efficiencies in the legal practice, which when put together with her extensive corporate law and startup experience, makes her a great addition to the team,” said David Little, National Lead of the Venture Technology and Emerging Growth Companies Group for Dentons Canada.
