DLA Piper today expands further its financial regulation team with the hire of new Partner Karen Butler. Karen, previously a Partner in Reed Smith’s financial regulatory practice, will join the firm’s London office.
A partner at Reed Smith since January 2020, having joined the firm in 2017, Karen is highly experienced in advising on both UK and EU financial legislation and compliance, having lent her expertise to a broad set of financial services institutions including banks, corporate finance firms, brokers, fund managers, electronic trading platforms, commercial lenders and derivatives markets participants. Karen brings a particular focus on shaping clients’ regulatory implementation, having supported restructuring projects across jurisdictions in the wake of Brexit. Karen also brings notable experience in the regulatory support of capital markets, derivatives, securitisation transactions and funds regulation to the team.
Tony Katz, Global Co-Chair of DLA Piper’s Financial Services sector team, comments: “We couldn’t be more excited for Karen, and her wealth of experience in both the UK and EU’s financial spaces, all in the context of global business, to join the team. UK Regulation is undergoing significant change through the introduction of the Financial Services and Markets Bill, a new Consumer duty and the divergence from EU financial Services law.
“Karen’s ability to advise and work on complex regulatory projects will be a huge asset to our clients in banking, and broader financial services. The continued growth of our team through strategic hires only builds on our resource and expertise as we continue to offer unparalleled regulatory advice to new and long-standing clients in the space.”
Karen Butler, joining Partner in the Financial Services sector team, adds: “I’m absolutely delighted to be joining a firm which has such deep and broad relationships with clients across the financial services sector. DLA Piper’s impressive international network of legal experts means it is well placed to advise and support clients in navigating their way through an increasingly complex regulatory landscape.
“I look forward to working with colleagues across various disciplines and jurisdictions in delivering practical and solutions-based advice to clients. I’m excited to join the team as the firm continues to strengthen and grow it’s highly respected global financial services regulatory offering.”
Karen Butler’s hire comes in immediate succession of the hire of Antony Hainsworth, formerly a Head of Financial Services Regulation at Societe Generale, as a Partner into the same market-leading DLA Piper regulatory team earlier this month.
