For more than two decades, Garno has provided legal counsel to several of the most visible and iconic fashion brands, including Cartier, DvF, Burberry, H&M, Eton, Havaianas, Foundrae, Miansai, By Far, and Daniel Patrick. She has advised fashion clients of all sizes from start-ups to multinational and global brands, with a particular focus on intellectual property matters such as trademark and copyright infringement, social media marketing, advertising, and anti-counterfeiting, as well as employment and general business litigation. Garno also has significant experience litigating both individual and class actions, and defending clients in white-collar disputes, alleged fraud actions, and federal and state indictments. She has also managed internal investigations and represented clients before state and federal regulatory bodies in the United States.
“Danielle is one of the preeminent fashion lawyers in the field, with a practice that complements our entertainment capabilities, from advertising, copyright and trademark, licensing to IP litigation,” said Steve Sessa, co-chair of Reed Smith’s Entertainment and Media Industry Group. “Her practice, which is unique within the firm, will deliver exciting opportunities to our existing entertainment and global consumer brands, while also opening new doors for the firm in the fashion, beauty, and luxury brands sectors. We are thrilled to have Danielle join us.”
Garno’s arrival provides a new element to Reed Smith’s global Entertainment & Media group, widely regarded as among the most robust in the industry. In addition to bringing a unique perspective on transactional and general commercial disputes within the fashion sector, Garno also will add bench strength to the group’s consumer-facing advisory and contentious capabilities, an area of specific demand among clients.
“Reed Smith’s international platform offers a great opportunity to grow my practice and better serve my clients,” Garno said. “I am also very excited to work with a group of highly acclaimed lawyers who represent a variety of clients that can benefit from my experience and relationships.”
Garno is the second partner hire for Reed Smith in Miami this year, following the arrival of real estate finance partner Jonathan Kurry to the firm’s Financial Industry Group.
“As we continue to grow our presence in Florida, we are placing an emphasis on two key characteristics for lateral partners – a thriving practice that complements our existing capabilities and a cultural fit with our local and global team. Danielle meets both criteria with flying colors,” said Constantine Karides, Reed Smith’s Miami office managing partner. “Furthermore, Miami is one of world’s entertainment hubs, with vibrant fashion, fine art, sports and music scenes. Building a strong, multidisciplinary entertainment and media presence in the city is a strategic priority of our firm, and Danielle’s arrival marks a major step towards that goal.”
Garno has written extensively and lectured across the U.S. on topics relating to fashion law and she teaches fashion law at the University of Miami School of Law. She also sits on the board of trustees of the YoungArts Foundation and serves as counsel to the non-profit organization Style Saves.
Garno received her J.D. from Pepperdine Caruso School of Law and B.A. from the University of Miami.
