Recently, Facebook came to the rescue of a minor girl by informing the Assam police about her wish to commit suicide that she had expressed in a post on the social media platform.
The girl had posted on Facebook saying ‘I am gonna commit suicide today’. Facebook reacted promptly to the post and contacted Assam Police informing them of the same.
The Assam Police rescued the girl without any delay. Further, the Police also counseled the family of the minor girl. She has also been advised to remove the post from the social media platform.
Earlier in January, Facebook had saved a minor boy by issuing a similar threat to the State Police. A boy named Azar, living on the city outskirts, had uploaded a video showing cuts made on his hand threatening to suicide if his parents didn’t gift him an expensive digital camera. The Facebook headquarters had alerted the concerned authorities and the boy was saved.
The social media platforms have time and again rescued people who have posted such threats by issuing an alert to the concerned authorities. Recently social media has been in news for all the wrong reasons and then this comes as ray of hope in the depleting credibility of social media.
Facebook’s quick action saves a minor girl from committing a suicide.
