Recently, the Delhi High Court Mediation Centre, SAMADHAN in collaboration with Singapore International Mediation Centre (SIMC) organised a lecture on “Growth of Mediation in Commercial Dispute: A Collaborative approach.”
The event, which was held at Pravasi Bhartiya Kendra, New Delhi, was attended by Supreme Court judges, Justices AK Sikri and Justice SK Kaul and Acting Chief Justice of Delhi High Court, Justice Gita Mittal, and other judges of Delhi High Court.
SIMC board director Viswa Sadasivan, Aloysius Goh along with other members were representing the SIMC at the event. The president of Supreme Court Bar Association RS Suri and president of Delhi High Court Bar Association Kirti Uppalalong with other members of the both the bar associations were also present at the event.
Senior Advocate Sudhanshu Batra, who is a member of Samadhan, delivered the welcome address.
Delivering the keynote address on the occasion, Justice Sikri applauded the Delhi High Court Mediation Centre, SAMADHAN while also praising its members for their untiring effort to make it a success. He further explained how mediation can act as a tool for resolving disputes effectively and the need for mediation in the present era.
Drawing an analogy between “Jaadu ki jhappi” and mediation, he explained how achieving synergy can lead to an amicable solution.
Justice Sikri said,
“Discussions are always better than arguments. Arguments are to find out who is right, but discussions find out what is right.”
Justice Kaul jokingly accepted his bias in favour of SAMADHAN and said that people now look for solutions and do not want to get caught up in the litigation process. Justice Kaul, narrating his experience, said that it feels good when you hear a “thank you” from a litigant.
Viswa Sadasivan and Aloysius Goh both narrated their respective experiences and clarified certain concepts about mediation.
Acting Chief Justice of Delhi High Court, Gita Mittal delivered the closing remarks thanking everyone for their efforts while expressing confidence that SAMADHAN will not only touch but break all the milestones in the near future.
