Introducing JurisOpen – a first of its kind digital publishing venture in Law which is based on the philosophy that law is basic and that legal information should be freely and widely accessible. Presently, a major proportion of this information is pay-walled, available only to those who can afford high subscription fees for access to the select legal databases. Free web search although remains to be a popular legal research tool, surveys have found researchers to be far more satisfied with fee-based resources that still remain the sole providers of citable content.
We at JurisOpen thus intend to upscale the standards of free access to legal information and invite you to join us in our efforts to build an online repository of authentic & reliable secondary legal materials from where people can cite for free.
JurisOpen solicits your scholarly contribution on any title relevant to the subject scope of law and legal studies in any standard publication format including, but not limited to, research articles, essays, case notes and legislative comments. Contributions may be made for publishing (if unpublished) or sharing (if previously published) on the JurisOpen platform. Contributors besides earning the credit for becoming a valued part of our initiation against the gross commodification of legal research & knowledge will have the benefits of:
(1) retaining copyright over their contributed work (whether unpublished or previously published) – JurisOpen shall own and exercise only specific and limited rights over the contributed work granted to it by the contributors via the Contributor License Agreement;
(2) wider dissemination of their previously published work via our freely accessible online platform leading to its increased citation and impact;
(3) refereed publishing and sharing in the oversight of our esteemed Research Advisory Group.
