4 Things You Should Do After A Bike Accident

Things happen unexpectedly all the time and you may encounter unfortunate situations in your life such as a bike accident. Bike accidents come in different forms—you could collide with a car or truck, you could have a burst tire, you could bump into a pole, and so much more.

Whatever it may be, it may be rewarding for you to know what to do afterward. The periods after an accident tend to be unfamiliar and hard to navigate. Knowing what to do would put you and the people around you at ease. The following are some things you should do after a bike accident:

  1. Remain At The Scene And Wait For Police

It’s important that you or the other people involved in the collision don’t leave the scene after the accident. Once you’ve called the police, be sure to wait for them to arrive. People tend to panic after a bike accident and flee from the scene. Try to avoid doing this because it could affect everything that follows the accident.

One of the reasons why it’s important to remain at the scene after a bike accident is because you can give first-hand answers regarding any property damage and injuries. Tracking down various parties involved in the accident could be hard if the parties leave the accident scene. Injuries could be developed over time and could be revealed after the police arrive.

Furthermore, whether your chosen law firm is Kreeger Law Firm or any other, leaving the scene could be disruptive to their process of capturing all details necessary for things like insurance claims. Therefore, don’t leave the scene and always wait until the police arrive and advise you of what to do afterward.

  1. Write Down The Information Of All Parties And Witnesses

Some accidents involve a lot of people and some just involve two. Whatever the case may be, it’s important that you get the information of all parties involved, especially any drivers or motorists. Some important information you should include is their name, contact number, driver’s license number, home address, license plate number, insurance policy number, and the make of their car or bike. This information could be very helpful to you.

It may be worthwhile to also obtain information of any witnesses, whether it be passengers, people sitting near the scene, or people who may have walked by. Write their names and phone numbers. This information could be helpful to the police or insurance companies if they need a third-party view when working on the case.

  1. Write Down Everything That Occurred

It’s easy to forget experiences in accidents. You may not know how to handle yourself after a bike accident because it’s relatively traumatic. This is why it’s important to write everything that occurred as soon as you can. Make sure you’re thorough in your explanations and descriptions because the more detailed they are, the easier it may be to navigate through the case.

Remembering every detail includes knowing when the accident occurred, where it happened, and how it escalated. It’s also important to write down what the road and traffic situations were. Furthermore, you should include the weather conditions that were at play before, during, and after the accident. You could also be visual in your descriptions by drawing diagrams or maps that show the positioning of all parties involved in the accident. Use your camera to capture the scene if you can.

  1. Seek Medical Attention And Preserve Evidence

After the accident, make sure to take pictures of all your injuries if you have any. Take photos of yourself showing the clothes you’re wearing and any damage caused to them. This may be of assistance when authorities navigate through your case. Document injuries and preserve evidence allows you to refrain from scrounging for evidence to support your case if you have to resort to consulting legal help.

After you’ve captured all injuries and preserved as much evidence as you can, make sure to seek immediate medical attention. Sometimes, people tend to underestimate their injuries and then end up dealing with extensive body damage for a long period. Whether you think your injuries are minor or major, it’s important to seek medical attention and get a clear doctor’s evaluation.

Aftermath Of Accidents

There could be many different causes of bike accidents and navigating through the aftermath of accidents could seem daunting. However, once you’re more familiar with how to navigate through it, the whole process seems less scary. You’d feel much better in knowing that if you’re ever involved in a bike accident, you’d know of a few things you should do.
